Our benchmark English wine has aromatic peach and floral fruit with a background of yeasty flavour and a soft broad palate.
The 2023 harvest was the biggest crop we have ever picked. We had to delay picking to wait until the rain stopped and the sunshine returned, but in the end the grapes achieved good ripeness. This wine was bottled in June 2024 and so has had time to mature in bottle. It is a light aromatic wine that could be kept for another couple of years, or enjoyed in its youth.
The blend of varieties includes Bacchus, Ortega, Faber, Siegerrebe and Huxelrebe that blend together to make a complex, fragrant and balanced dry white wine. No yeast is added because the grapes have yeast on their skins. The alcohol is 11%, with the fruit aromas (hedgerow, citrus, elderflower) which will develop over time in bottle. 10% of the blend in was fermented in large foudres (massive oak casks traditionally used in Alsace) which gives the wine a really soft texture and smooth creamy structure - without making the wine taste of oak.
